CEE students and Maseeh College community, We’re writing to share that Evan Kristof has recently stepped down from his role in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering. He will be returning to practice as a structural engineer in the private sector, where he began his professional journey before joining our Department 13 years ago. To say Evan has been a valued member of our community is a vast understatement. Since he started at Portland State in 2012, he has consistently been lauded by students and colleagues alike for his well-organized courses and empathetic approach to teaching; but Evan's service to the university transcends his work as a professor. For over ten years, Evan also served as the CEE Department Upper Division Advisor, where he helped students navigate academic challenges and build their path to graduation with seemingly endless patience and compassion. And if that wasn't enough, Evan was also the advisor of PSU's chapter of the American Society of Civil Engineers, where for the better part of a decade, he nurtured students' confidence to become leaders in their communities and profession. In addition to his many official titles, listing all that Evan did behind the scenes - from serving on committees that redesigned engineering education, to physically building out labs - would fill a textbook. But among his most important accomplishments was this: every spring, our Department surveys the senior Capstone class to ask which CEE faculty member had the greatest impact on their engineering journey. And each year, nearly every graduating student writes Evan's name. Evan's presence will be greatly missed at PSU; but if he cannot be shaping the minds of the next generation of civil and environmental engineers, we are grateful that he will be lending his considerable talents to shaping the future of Portland's infrastructure instead. Notes of gratitude, memories, and well-wishes can be sent directly to Evan at ekristof@pdx.edu. Please join us in wishing him the very best in this next chapter!
