[Cee-grad-students] Reminder of PSU Composting Policy

Hello CEE community, PSU Waste Management has recently noticed an uptick in non-compostable items in the compost bins in EB - both in the Departmemt Suite kitchenettes, and in the public receptacles throughout the building. Inclusion of non-compostable items in these bins will contaminate larger batches, which requires everything in that batch to be thrown in the garbage - so it's important that we abide by PSU's composting policy, which may differ from what you're used to at home. With few exceptions, only organic material such as *food scrap *or *plant debris* can be composted at PSU. Some examples of* non-compostable items *at PSU include paper towels and plates; containers marketed as 'compostable' like some coffee cups and to-go cartons; and recyclables like cardboard, aluminum, and glass. More information can be found on the PSU Composts website <https://www.pdx.edu/sustainability/waste-management#composts> - but when in doubt, it is better to throw something in the garbage than risk contaminating the compost. Continued misuse of the compost bins could result in Waste Management removing them from EB, so we appreciate your attention to this issue and your continued committment to sustainability! PSU CEE Community, Please join us for the Spring 2025 CEE Department Capstone Project Poster Presentations this upcoming *Tuesday, April 22nd*, from *4-5:50pm *in the* EB Atrium! * For months, CEE Capstone students have been putting their coursework into practice on real-world engineering projects, spanning multiple disciplines and a diverse mix of clients. This year's projects include: - Reimagining Sheridan Street - Vancouver Amtrak Station - Multi-Use Path - Residential Garage Eco-Roof - Marys River Urea Spill - Montgomery Street Plaza, Phase II - Steel Bridge Design Analysis Automation - Infrastructure Cost Analysis This poster session is an important opportunity for CEE Capstone students to showcase their engineering designs, receive initial feedback, and practice answering questions from an audience with varying levels of engineering experience. It is also a great chance for other CEE students to see the kinds of projects they might be working on in the future. All input will be invaluable as the Capstone teams wrap up their projects for final presentation to their clients in June. CAT supported Windows 10 system users: Due to recently released fixes for a serious bug, we will be releasing weekly patches for Windows 10 TONIGHT April 8th. CAT supported Windows 11 users: Usual schedule. There will be REBOOTS of all MCECS supported Windows Servers at 6 PM on Friday, April 11th, 2025. This work should be completed by 7 PM. This will include the Windows Homedirs, access to Stashes, Printing, Networked Applications and Network Licenses. This work is needed to ensure that Windows Updates have been applied to our Servers. It is best to logout from your Windows account prior to that time. Patches will be released for CAT supported Windows 11 Workstations on Wednesday (4/9/2025). Desktops that have not been patched should reboot for patches at 6 PM Friday evening. This work is not expected to affect any Linux systems.
